Seventeen compliance topics Italian buyers ask about
What the rule actually requires of a merchandise order, and which document a buyer should ask the supplier for.
Compliance work on merchandise is mostly a question of documents. Which certificate, whose name is on it, what it covers and whether it covers the product in front of us. Seventeen topics are set out here, from the ones every programme touches to the narrow ones that only surface when a specific product or market is involved.
Some of these are hard obligations on the buying side rather than the supply side. The EU deforestation regulation and the ESG disclosure rules land on the company buying the merchandise and shape the data it needs from us. GDPR applies to anything that touches a list of recipients, which is most welcome packs and most event programmes.
The certification pages cover the schemes that appear in Italian briefs: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 on skin-contact textiles, GOTS on organic cotton, GRS on recycled polyester, FSC on paper and packaging, ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 from the producer, REACH SVHC declarations and Made in Italy marking under D.Lgs. 135/2009. Producer certificates are collected during qualification, not after the order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you supply the certificate for an order we already placed?
Yes, for the producer that made the item. Certificates are collected during qualification, so they are on file before the first run.
Who owns the compliance obligation, us or the supplier?
It depends on the topic, and several of these pages explain which side carries which duty in plain terms.
Do you sign declarations of conformity?
Yes. The pages here describe what is signed, what it covers and, just as importantly, what it does not cover.
