Print method shifts 2026
Decoration tech is reshuffling in 2026. Trend report on which print methods are growing in Italy and which are flat, with portfolio data.
Three shifts that matter
First: UV print share on rigid items is up sharply — full-colour gradients on metal/glass/wood at unit economics that used to need 250+ MOQ now run from 50. Second: DTF (direct-to-film) is eating into embroidery and screen-print for small-run apparel — sub-100 unit jobs are economic. Third: spot-Pantone screen-print stays dominant for 500+ apparel runs with strict Pantone Delta-E ≤ 2.5.
What this means in Italy
From the Milano hub we now route artwork through the right method by default: UV print for rigid full-colour, DTF for small-run apparel, screen-print for large-run spot colour, embroidery for premium textile branding. Billed in EUR excluding IVA 22% via SdI (Sistema di Interscambio). Decision logic is shared with the buyer up-front, no surprises on the invoice.
Method mix Q1 2026 in Italy
From 142 portfolios: UV print 31% (vs 22% in 2024), DTF 18% (vs 8%), screen-print 24% (vs 30%), embroidery 14% (vs 16%), pad/tampo 8% (vs 12%), laser engrave 5% (vs 4%). Cost per decorated unit down 9% year-on-year despite material inflation, driven by UV/DTF economics on small runs.
FAQ
Which method is best for my job?
Depends on substrate, colour count, run size and Pantone tolerance. We send a method recommendation with every quote in Italy.
Is DTF durable for corporate wear?
Yes for office/event use — 30-50 wash cycles. For high-cycle workwear in Italy we still prefer screen-print or embroidery.
Can I see a sample before bulk?
Always — physical pre-production sample with photo proof before bulk production. Standard, no extra charge.
