SMAU is Italy's reference event for open innovation and corporate-startup matching, organised by SMAU S.r.l. each year at Fieramilanocity, between Portello and Cadorna. Over two or three days, innovation managers from banks, telcos, energy and manufacturing, corporate venture funds, accelerators (PoliHub, LUISS EnLabs, BHeroes, Fashion Technology Accelerator, Digital Magics, Kilometro Rosso), scaleups and startups looking for industrial partners cross the halls, the regional stands (Lombardia, Piemonte, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Campania) and the dedicated areas for generative AI, fintech, climate, mobility, healthtech and space economy. It is the moment when the open-innovation pipelines of large Italian and European firms consolidate.

For corporate teams and startups that exhibit at SMAU, branded merch has to address a very specific audience: innovation decision-makers who evaluate dozens of proposals in a few hours, founders who must stand out in crowded pitches, tech buyers who compare features. Tech accessories must be genuinely useful — a power bank that charges a laptop, a well-trimmed USB-C cable, a branded laptop stand — and not yet another logo printed on an object that ends up in a drawer.

Corp-Merch.IT works with corporate firms (Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, Mediobanca, Generali, ENI, Enel, Poste Italiane, Leonardo, Prysmian, Amplifon, TIM, Vodafone Italia, Wind Tre, Fastweb), with structured scaleups and startups, with incubators and accelerators bringing their portfolio companies to the show, with public institutions (Regions, Municipalities, AGID, Invitalia, MIMIT) and with the vendors that serve the Italian enterprise market. For each we propose a combination of tech gadgets, stand-staff apparel and welcome kits for the innovation-manager delegations.

The SMAU audience is highly selective: corporate innovation managers, CVC funds (Enel X, Eni Next, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, CDP Venture Capital), accelerators, innovation KOLs, tech press (Wired Italia, La Repubblica Innovazione, Il Sole 24 Ore - NovaTech, StartupItalia), startup founders and CTOs, public decision-makers (AGID, the Department for Digital Transformation). The merch has to be tuned to a crowd that sees tech gadgets all year: it means materials that actually work, that fit the brand's positioning, and that don't look like the usual anonymous USB drive handed out at a trade show five years ago.

Production, logistics and invoicing for SMAU

SMAU is a short and compact fair (two-three days, a few halls), but with an audience that moves quickly between stands, pitches and matching tables. Production must be fast, traceable and consistent in quality because the brand is at stake in a very competitive setting. For tech gadgets we work with Italian production hubs (paper converting in Tuscany, Como microfibre, Brescia metal, borosilicate glass) and with EU/Asia manufacturers for the electronic components (power banks, cables, laptop stands) certified CE, RoHS and REACH. For programmes that require GOTS or GRS we select manufacturers with full traceability from the yarn.

Logistics relies on our Milan hub (Barona area) with D+1 deliveries across Italy and express deliveries to the Fieramilanocity district for teams that have already built their stand. For innovation-manager delegations staying in the Porta Nuova, Garibaldi or Brera area, we organise pre-coordinated handovers with the concierge or with the hotel desk. For founders arriving directly from the press-room pitch, welcome kits can be delivered to the SMAU Press desk. For corporate firms with operational offices also in Rome or Turin, we manage split deliveries with dedicated express couriers (BRT, SDA, GLS, DHL Express Italy) and overnight drops to avoid build-up day congestion.

Invoicing follows the standard Italian regime: 22% VAT through the Sistema di Interscambio (SdI) of the Agenzia delle Entrate, EUR invoice ex-VAT for intra-EU buyers in reverse charge. For clients subject to CSRD (D.Lgs. 125/2024) we integrate a Scope 3 CO₂e data sheet per GHG Protocol. The certifications most requested on these programmes are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 on skin-contact textiles, GOTS on organic cotton, GRS on recycled polyester, FSC on paper and cardboard, EU Ecolabel, REACH SVHC declaration on materials, RoHS and CE on electronic components, Made in Italy per D.Lgs. 135/2009 when required by the brief. On tier pricing: starter 50-249 pieces per code, standard 250-999, enterprise 1,000-4,999, corporate 5,000+; standard payment terms 30 days from invoice date, 10% deposit on first order, improved terms after 90 days of trading history.

Frequently asked questions on SMAU Milano

What is the safest window to launch the order before SMAU?

Ten to twelve weeks is the safest window for tech gadgets with certified electronic components and for branded apparel on Italian districts. Six to eight weeks works for programmes on stock already available.

Can we deliver directly to the Fieramilanocity halls?

Yes, only after the organiser has confirmed the build-up window, the loading lane and the named consignee (surname, contact, mobile). For battery-powered gadgets, UN3480/UN3481 air-transport rules must be respected when applicable.

Can we split the order between founders, CVC and tech press?

Yes. Tech gadgets for founders, welcome kits for innovation managers, stand-staff apparel and press kits can be packed and labelled as separate lots, with different consignees (hall, CVC lounge, press room) and coordinated windows.
